Common Questions

What pre-med students ask us before getting started.

Fill out the contact form and tell us which sections you need help with. We'll look at your diagnostic scores, timeline, and which areas need the most attention, then match you with the tutor who fits best. If the fit isn't right, we'll reassign you. No questions asked.
Sessions are tailored to you, but generally: your first session includes a strategy overview to understand where you're at. From there we review your study plan (or build one together), do live passage review where you talk through your reasoning out loud and get real-time feedback, and go through previous questions you've struggled with. We focus on the "why" behind correct answers, not just which letter is right. We ask that you send any passages or questions you want to review by noon on session day so we can prep in advance.
It depends on where you're starting and what you're targeting. Some students see real shifts after 2 to 3 targeted sessions. Others benefit from consistent weekly support over a longer stretch. We'd rather assess where you are in the first session and give you an honest recommendation than promise a fixed number upfront.
Yes, all sessions are online via Zoom, Google Meet, or Discord. We use shared digital whiteboards and annotated AAMC materials to keep things interactive. Works from anywhere, including when you're studying abroad or on clinical rotations.
We offer single sessions at $45/hour and discounted multi-session bundles ($40/hour for 5 sessions, $35/hour for 10 sessions). Our tutors put in significant prep time before each session, so the rate reflects that investment. Check the Pricing section above for full details.
This is one of the most common things we work on. The AAMC uses a particular style of reasoning in their answer choices that is different from third-party resources like Jack Westin or UWorld. In sessions, we walk through your thought process in real time, identify the exact moment you go wrong (passage comprehension vs question interpretation vs answer elimination), and build habits that make the right choice more recognizable. Our CARS Analytics tool can also help you pinpoint which question types are costing you the most points.
This is one of the most common things we hear. The issue usually isn't effort. It's that third-party resources reinforce a different style of reasoning than what the AAMC actually rewards. If you've gone through a ton of third-party content but haven't done a deep dive into official AAMC materials (especially reviewing the why behind every right and wrong answer), there's still a lot of room to grow. That review process is exactly what we focus on in tutoring.
AAMC first, always: CARS QPacks Vol 1 and 2, Section Banks, all AAMC Full-Length Exams, and the CARS Diagnostic Tool. For secondary practice: Blueprint FLs are decent for time management but the logic differs from AAMC, and Jack Westin works for volume training. Key thing to remember: the AAMC uses a specific "CARS logic" that is meaningfully different from third-party resources. If you're running low on time, skip the third-party content and go all-in on official AAMC materials.
All of our tutors scored in the 95th percentile or above on the official MCAT. We have specialists for every section: Chem/Phys, Bio/Biochem, CARS, and Psych/Soc. Our team has experience working with students across a wide range of starting points, including students with ADHD, testing accommodations, and ESL backgrounds. Check out the Tutors section above for individual profiles.
We ask for 24 hours notice for cancellations or reschedules. We know that pre-med schedules are hectic, especially as exam day approaches, and we do our best to stay flexible.
