Common Questions

Everything you need to know before getting started.

Most students need 3 to 6 months of focused prep, usually around 15 to 20 hours per week. The exact timeline depends on where you're starting, what score you're targeting, and what coursework you've already completed. We'll help you figure out a realistic schedule during your first session.
During your first session, we look at your diagnostic scores, learning style, and which sections need the most attention. From there we match you with the tutor who fits best. If the fit isn't right, we'll reassign you. No questions asked.
Due to higher volume, we are no longer scheduling free consult calls for new students. That said, we're happy to answer specific questions via message before you commit to anything so you can get a feel for whether we're a good fit.
Honestly, it's hard to predict. Every student's situation is different. Rather than promising a fixed number, we'd rather assess where you are in the first session and give you a straight recommendation from there. Some students see real shifts after 2 to 3 targeted sessions. Others benefit from consistent weekly support over a longer stretch.
All sessions are online via video call, so you can work with our tutors from anywhere. We use shared digital whiteboards and annotated practice materials to keep things interactive and focused.
We're flexible. Sessions can happen over Zoom, Google Meet, WhatsApp, Discord, or phone. Most students go with Zoom or Google Meet. Just let us know your preference when scheduling.
Tutor availability varies week to week, but we generally have evening slots (PST) available. We can also accommodate international time zones when possible. Just let us know your situation and we'll find something that works.
We ask for 24 hours notice for cancellations or reschedules. We get that life happens and we do our best to stay flexible, especially as your exam date gets closer and you need more intensive support.
Pricing varies by package and session frequency. We offer per-session rates as well as discounted multi-session bundles. Reach out and we'll walk you through the options that fit your goals and budget.
Rates depend on the tutor and the package you choose. Our tutors put in significant prep time before each session (they don't show up cold), so the rate reflects that investment. We try to be transparent about pricing upfront so there are no surprises.
We accept Venmo, PayPal (Friends & Family preferred to avoid fees), Zelle, and Wise (preferred for international students). Payment can be made before or after sessions. We're flexible on timing.
We understand financial situations vary and try to be upfront about what we can accommodate. We occasionally have tutors available at lower rates, so it's worth asking. Just reach out and we'll see what we can do.
Sessions are tailored to you, but generally: the first session often includes a short strategy overview to cover our approach and learn more about where you're at. From there we review your study plan (or build one together if you don't have one), do live passage review where you talk through your reasoning out loud and get real-time feedback, and go through previous questions you've struggled with, focusing on the "why" behind correct answers. We ask that you send any compiled passages or questions you want to review by noon on session day so we can prep in advance.
Yes, and this is one of the most common things we work on. The AAMC uses a particular style of reasoning in their answer choices that is noticeably different from third-party resources like Jack Westin or UWorld. In sessions, we walk through your thought process in real time, identify the exact moment you go wrong (passage comprehension vs. question interpretation vs. answer elimination), and build habits that make the right choice more recognizable.
Yes. We've worked with students who have ADHD and who are testing with accommodations like stop-clock time. We can build strategies that work within your specific accommodation structure, including how to use extra time effectively and how to stay consistent despite working memory challenges.
Absolutely. Our team has experience teaching English to non-native speakers, and we know that the AAMC's dense academic passages create extra challenges for ESL students. We can work on vocabulary in context, comprehension strategies, and how to navigate passages without needing to understand every single word.
100%. This is actually one of our focus areas. Career changers often need a different approach than traditional pre-med students, starting from foundational content before building up to MCAT-level application. Several of our tutors specialize in working with non-traditional applicants.
We recommend students grab the official AAMC materials, which are the gold standard for MCAT prep. Supplemental guides, practice passages, and annotated review sheets are included as part of your tutoring package at no extra cost.
Primary (AAMC first, always): AAMC CARS QPacks Vol 1 & 2, AAMC Section Banks (CARS), all 6 AAMC Full-Length Exams, and the AAMC Diagnostic Tool. For secondary/volume practice: Blueprint FLs are good for time management but not AAMC logic, and Jack Westin works for volume training but the logic differs from AAMC. Key thing to remember: the AAMC uses a specific type of "CARS logic" that is meaningfully different from third-party resources. If you're running out of time, skip the third-party content and go all-in on official AAMC materials.
This is one of the most common things we hear. The issue usually isn't effort. It's that third-party resources reinforce a different style of reasoning than what the AAMC actually rewards. If you've gone through a ton of third-party content but haven't done a deep dive into official AAMC materials (especially reviewing the why behind every right and wrong answer), there's still a lot of room to grow. That review process is exactly what we focus on in tutoring.
All of our tutors scored in the 95th percentile or above on the official MCAT. Beyond scores, our team brings years of teaching experience, published academic work, and backgrounds in working with diverse learners including ESL students and career changers. You can check out each tutor's profile in the Tutors section above.
Yes. We have specialists for every section: Chem/Phys, Bio/Biochem, CARS, Psych/Soc, and full-spectrum prep. Each tutor focuses on the areas where they can add the most value. If you only need help with one specific section, we'll match you with the right specialist.
Yes. Our tutors have worked with students ranging from complete beginners to retakers stuck in the 124 to 126 range, including students with ADHD, testing accommodations, and ESL backgrounds. We don't promise guaranteed score jumps, but we can offer a clear and personalized plan plus efficient use of whatever time you have left.
